We started planting our 597 acres of land to fine
vineyards in the heart of Colchagua Valley in 1990.
Since then we have been passionately involved in every
step of the way, pouring our souls first into the
land, the vines and the grapes, then into the winery
and the bottle, and now finally into your glass.
Viña Sutil is located 130 kilometers southwest
of Santiago, Chile, at 70.10 degrees west longitude
and 34.3 degrees south latitude, in the heart of the
Colchagua Valley. The Denomination of Origin (D.O.)
Colchagua Valley is a sub-appellation of the D.O.
Rapel Valley in the central region of Chile. The winery
is found in the community of Peralillo, just west
of the city of Santa Cruz.
The Colchagua Valley is a natural corridor formed
by the oastal mountain range and the Andes, and it
is irrigated by the pure, cool waters from both of
these mountain chains. The valley extends from the
Pacific Ocean right to the foot of the Andes. This
creates a spectacular combination of maritime and
mountain influences that generates conditions unique
in Chile and the world, forming a very special microclimate
that is ideal for viticulture.
Viña Sutil began in 1990 with the planting
of 597 acres of noble vines, oriented toward making
fine wines for the domestic and international markets.
Today the entire property is delivering excellent
quality grapes, especially the reds, with varieties
ranging from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère,
Malbec, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. We
also have small plantings of Chardonnay and Sauvignon
Blanc.
One of the determining factors in the quality of
our wines is the climate at our Colchagua properties.
The four seasons are well defined, with virtually
no rain in the summer and nearly 700 mm of rainfall
during the winter. This makes for ideal conditions
for viticulture. The broad temperature fluctuation
between day and night of up to 22 degrees Celsius
allows the grapes to ripen slowly during the long
summer. The resulting wines have a
deep color and smooth tannin structure, with ripe
fruit flavors and good acid balance. They are also
high in polyphenols, which are beneficial to good
health.
We place particular emphasis on the ecological management
of the vineyards. We use practically no pesticides,
thanks to the ideal climate and good ventilation among
the vines, which allow us to attain healthy grapes
year after year based on natural pest control.
Our state-of-the-art winery has a storage capacity
of 6.5 million liters under optimum conditions, which
facilitates the gentle handling of the musts. We also
have in Colchagua all the necessary equipment for
finishing and bottling all of the wines destined for
the different markets around the world.
The 2003 harvest brought us the first grapes from
a new project that Viña Sutil is developing
in Cauquenes, in the Maule Valley. We now have 131
acres planted in that region, which promise to provide
a wide range of excellent red varietals.
Viña Sutil is not only a family-owned company,
but also a strong commercial enterprise. Our wines
are currently found in more than twenty markets worldwide.
Our primary commitment is to be as close as possible
to those markets in order to deliver products of optimum
quality and the best service.
The principal wine brands produced by Viña
Sutil are Sutil, La Playa, De Eyzaguirre and Lomas
de Los Andes.
The company is made up of young professionals who
are highly committed to the challenge of attaining
the best results. This has allowed us to establish
a solid, lasting image in the marketplace, not only
for our brands but for Chile as well. It is a company
that is always willing to learn in a challenging and
competitive environment.
We are oriented toward long-term success. Beyond
having clients, we have partners in this adventure
in the world of wine. We believe in people and in
professional relationships based on mutual trust,
strategic vision, and shared growth.
For Viña Sutil, the word "quality"
defines and unifies our vision. We are inspired by
the ongoing challenge of raising the quality of our
wines, our work, the level of our service, and the
way we present our products to the market.
